E-Safety News

At Glenmoor and Winton we recognise that the internet and use of online devices are an important resource in the modern world and have great learning opportunities.  However we take internet safety very seriously and aim to educate our young people and school community in using it responsibly.

We have a programme of education across the school to help students learn the dangers and an example of this is below:

Half Term 1
Year 7 – Cyber Bullying
Year 8 – Digital Footprint
Year 9 – Digital Media Piracy
Year 10 – Sexting
Year 11 – Digital Footprint 2

Half Term 2:
Year 7 – Internet Trends
Year 8 – Ratings and Responses of Website
Year 9 – Digital tattoo
Year 10 – Exploited – online grooming
Year 11 - Exploited – online grooming

Letters go out regularly to inform parents of new information, concerns and advice from a variety of sources previous letter can be found on our letters page (link to letters page).

All students are given annual E-Safety training links on a rolling programme to update their understanding which produce a certificate. Parents and the community are encouraged to participate in the online training too.

We have assemblies and the subject is also covered in KS3 citizenship prorgammes. We often have outside speakers such as Dorset Police Safer Schools Team to talk to whole year groups or individual students about current issues online.

If you have a concern about an internet safety issue there are several places you can go for help:

If you are worried about yourself or someone in immediate danger please call 999
If you are worried about an online issue that is not an emergency you can do any of the following:
