Glenmoor & Winton Academies motto is ‘High Achievement, High Standards’. We believe that every child matters and every lesson counts, creating well rounded citizens achieving academic excellence. Glenmoor & Winton is a highly inclusive school that caters for the needs of all students. We ensure our most able students are stretched academically and students with special educational needs and disabilities are expertly supported, allowing the Academies to ensure the best in everyone.

Situated on one of the most beautiful parts of the South Coast, Glenmoor & Winton Academies are two successful, single sex academies that benefit from a shared campus and teaching staff.

With both academies judged as securely Good in the summer of 2015 and well on their way to becoming Outstanding, this is an excellent time to become part of the team.

A unified approach to teaching and learning is manifest across both schools with a Senior Leadership Team praised for their “pursuit of excellence for all students”. The “shared determination to succeed at the highest levels” is apparent amongst both pupils and staff at these schools which, since becoming academies in 2013, have demonstrated significant improvement to create an “outstanding learning experience” for students.

As part of United Learning, Glenmoor & Winton’s progress is overseen by Dame Sally Coates, United Learning’s Director of Southern Secondary Academies. The academies form a cluster of United Learning schools and academies in the area and work together with these and other schools to great effect.  Partnerships are underway in terms of sport, teaching and learning, pupil experience and there is a strong focus on CPD for staff at all levels.

What the children say...

  • "The teachers and heads are all kind and caring. Each and every one of them wants the best for all of us. You can talk to them about anything from if you are struggling in class or if you are upset about something at home; they will always find a way to help.

    We have many opportunities to take on responsibilities, such as Head Boy and Head Girl, prefects, sports prefects, student voice representative and many more.

    Finally, sports and drama are great at the school. Netball is especially good as the girls’ Year 8 team have recently become the national champions and we also have a connection with the Rugby London Irish. A couple of months ago, drama students staged the show Loserville which was a great success.

  • "Our schools excel in sport and are in partnership with other schools that are a part of the London Irish Rugby team. We also enter frequent netball, cricket, gymnastics and handball competitions against other schools and are regularly successful. Inter-house competitions occur often throughout the terms. We have the privilege of our own handball Olympian, John Pearce, as part of our P.E Department and many other skilled teachers who aspire to inspire us as students.

    We are constantly in cooperation with younger primary schools in the area to influence the younger generations and encourage them in any way possible. Our best role models are chosen for sport and academic events that take place at primary schools, for instance, many pupils from Year 9 last year were used in a project with Year 4 students from a local primary school which gave them the opportunity to cooperate with older people and experience working with new and different people.

  • "I am currently one of the longest standing members of staff at the academies. I started working at Winton in 2001 as an NQT PE teacher before the two schools became federated academies. During my time at the school I was supported and promoted through a range of middle leadership roles and being invested in by being put through my NPQML. This has always been something that has been a driving force at Glenmoor and Winton, investing in teachers with passion and desire to develop. I am currently Head of Year 11 across both schools with over 300 students in my Year Group. My most recent progression has been completing my NPQSL which has also led to a secondment onto the Senior Leadership Team.

    There are many reasons I have spent so long at the two academies. The students and staff are amazing and work together with mutual understanding and collaborate in a really positive way. Also the academies really invest in staff who want to progress through their career and are incredibly loyal in recognising good work. I am hugely proud of working at Glenmoor and Winton and would encourage anyone who was interested in working with like-minded staff and students in a two thriving secondary schools."

As a young teacher the schools are a brilliant place to work, with a lot of support and opportunities for development.
